Southwestern College's track team is making one last dash for the State Finals.

Although the season is ending, SWC's track team is still in the race. Regionals are May 18 at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California.

The team has 16 runners competing in regionals and coach Tonie Campbell has high hopes for all.

"We always make regionals and have at least one state champ every year," he said.
Campbell said he has absolute confidence in his team and their skills.

"Every athlete has been trained well," he said. "I'm expecting a couple casualties, things get real intense around this time."

This season was a lot rougher than past years. Students lost due to class cuts may have slowed their pace, but the team could not be stopped.

"We have pulled through like I've never seen," said Campbell.

Campbell took notice of two runners specifically, Karla Secratto, who had the toughest schedule and Edwin Aguilar. Serrato ran the 400m, 100m and 200m with only a 20-minute break in between and Aguilar ran the 400m and 800m.

"Their performance was amazing," said Campbell.

Coach Campbell is making sure his runners are on top of their grades as well.
"I want them to understand that they are student-athletes not athletic-students," said Campbell.

Through it all the team seems to have excelled and overcome several boundaries making their coach proud.

"Its been an amazing season," said Campbell.
